When will the Electoral Process be digital / virtual from homes in the US?

Please give an example of how this could be accomplished today, i.e. type of software needed other than a pc and windows environment. Type of system the agency in charge of the processes would need, etc.

Do you think this would be the best way for voters to cast their ballots with ease and security.

Please give an example of securing the process so it might become bona fide as a benchmark process and the standard for Voting.
